Word Problems:
Addition and Subtraction
Isn’t the whole point of learning math to apply it to real life situations? So why do students struggle so much with solving word problems? This workshop will give you a 5-step process to teach your students so they can solve almost any addition or subtraction word problem. We will examine the 12 story problem types and how you students can decide whether to add or subtract to solve the problem. Whether they’re adding single digits or subtracting complex fractions, this methodology will help your students succeed at solving word problems.

Teach your students to deeply understand the meaning of multiplication so they never feel “stuck” with any times table fact. We’ll look at visuals and models that help develop a strong foundation for multiplication, and we'll explore the properties (aka: math hacks) that make it easier to multiply bigger numbers. And, of course, we’ll talk about ways to learn all 100 facts from memory. Bonus: Your students will walk away solving multiplication word problems, too!
