THE COFFEE & PI TEACHERS ACADEMY

Make this the year your students surprise themselves with their math abilities.

A 1-year PD program for Grade 2–6 math teachers: Math support to make your work more satisfying and their learning stick.

Works with any curriculum

Funding approved

Runs September through June

For teachers

For principals and decision-makers

Trusted by 50+ schools (and counting)

Prep easier. Teach with confidence. Watch students win.

Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been teaching for years, the Coffee & Pi Teachers Academy can take your math teaching skills off the charts

Teaching math doesn’t always go 1, 2, 3

Things can get tricky when you’re juggling:

Thirty different skill levels. Some kids need ten explanations- while others are bored because they got it on day one.

Kids who hate math. And if you're being honest? Not every topic sparks joy for you either. You spend hours hunting for resources that are both engaging AND actually work.

An imperfect curriculum. The curriculum has holes, and you're the one plugging them - even though you learned it a completely different way back in school.

Never enough time. There’s too much to cover, and just not enough math lessons to do it all in. It doesn’t help that last year’s math didn’t stick, so you’re constantly re-teaching what they should already know.

    A tried-and-true success formula

Coffee & Pi’s two-part approach has worked magic for more than 1000 teachers:

    Understanding it deeply

Most teachers learned math as a series of rules instead of the rich, logical system it is. Once you see the why, everything changes:

✼ Teaching becomes enjoyable (because it finally makes sense!)

✼ You feel confident planning lessons and answering questions

✼ You save time, because you know exactly what you’re doing and why it works

    Teach it so it sticks

When you teach with proven, classroom-tested methods, your students actually get it the first time.

✼ You spend less time re-teaching and more time learning fresh concepts

✼ Students feel genuinely smart and capable (because they understand the why, not just the steps)

✼ You see real, lasting progress in every student - from your strugglers to your high achievers

    What teachers are saying:

“I felt comfortable asking her anything.”

Chanie showed me how to take the same math concept and teach it to kids at totally different levels. When we worked on word problems, she helped me break them down into stages so I could see exactly where each kid was getting stuck. I saw huge growth right away with word problems after that.

After working with her very closely for one year, my admin asked me if I still needed her. I had to explain that I loved working with Chanie - it wasn’t something I was ready to give up!

    Al Levenstein
    Team Lead
    Luria Academy

“My class average was extremely high.”

Working with Chanie was amazing. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much, because as a kid, I actually hated math!

I learned how to make math more exciting and more fun. My girls were actually enjoying learning math. They grew a tremendous amount that year, and my class average was extremely high.

One of the best short-term benefits of working with Chanie is the immediate confidence boost. You feel like you’re good to go, like you can just walk into the classroom and teach.

She taught everything so well that when I had to reteach it the next year, it was still 100% clear what I had to do!

    FOR PRINCIPALS

    Crunching the numbers

With school PD budgets shrinking, the Coffee & Pi Teachers Academy makes sure every dollar goes a long way

    End the one-off workshops cycle

It's frustrating to pay for one-day trainings that create a brief spark but don't build momentum. Teachers are excited in the moment, but then find themselves back to the same struggles by week two.

The Academy supports your teachers all year long - ongoing guidance, a collaborative community, and proven methods that actually make math teaching easier.

    One Program. School-Wide Growth

Content spans Grades 2–6, creating alignment across your entire math program  - and helping teachers understand how concepts build over time.

Your 2nd-grade teacher knows exactly what students need for success in 3rd grade. And your 6th-grade teacher can identify and address gaps from earlier years.

The result? A stronger, more connected math culture across your entire school.

    Stretch your tightening budget

With recent funding changes, you need PD solutions that give you maximum impact per dollar.

$1,000 per teacher gives you year-long access to a full suite of workshops, ongoing support, and measurable results.

    One purchase. Sustained impact.

    What principals are saying:

    “We’ve seen major shifts.”

Teachers love working with Chanie because she’s hands-on, listens deeply, and is totally on their team, going above and beyond to give them whatever they’ll find helpful. We’ve seen major shifts in teacher confidence, student outcomes, and overall clarity around math teaching.

    Principal
    Beis Rivkah

“They couldn’t get enough of her!”

My teachers were highly trained and experienced, so I knew I needed someone really worth their time. They loved working with Chanie and could not get enough of her!

They had more ideas on how to bring their material to their students in an exciting way, and more clarity on what they were teaching.

Chanie’s relatable and positive — she always makes teachers feel great about what they're doing. She really brought our school to a whole new plateau.

    about me

    Hi there, teacher!

I'm Chanie Hurwitz, math coach for almost 13 years now.

I’ve worked with hundreds of teachers over the years, and every day, I’m blown away all over again.

Teachers do anything for their students, going above and beyond. Your to-do list might be endless, but you do it all with a smile.

I believe that teachers, more than anyone else, deserve to love their job.

And that’s why I do what I do. I've coached hundreds of teachers in over 50 schools across NYC and conducted workshops from Florida to California. I love seeing that shift happen when teachers start seeing math through a whole new lens. Suddenly, it's their favorite part of the day.

My dream: to help even more teachers find joy in teaching math.

That’s why I can’t wait for the Academy to begin. I want you to feel more connected: to methods that actually work, to other teachers who get it, to the math itself.

I'm so excited to make this happen for more teachers — and can’t wait to meet you (and your inner math person!)

    Chanie Hurwitz, MS Ed
    Founder, Coffee & Pi

    • Yes, if you sign up for next year, as well. We hope you do! We plan to keep it fresh by adding new content each year based on teacher requests and questions.

    • The thing that surprises teachers most once they start learning math with Coffee & Pi?

Discovering their inner math person. The math is broken down so you actually get how the numbers work (tried-and-tested on even the most math-reluctant teachers!).

At the end of each workshop you’ll have a fresh dose of confidence and a brand new relationship with math.

    • The price is $1,000 per teacher, per year, and we are approved for Title funding (yay!). If your school is unable to secure funding, please reach out and we'll see what we can do.

    • Of course! Our school support admin is available for tech support. Once you’re signed up, we’ll let you know how to reach out to her.

    • Absolutely! Chanie is in the community at least twice a week - she'll join discussions, answer questions, and respond to your private messages.

    • In short, yes! But read on.

The Academy is designed to cover:

      • Major topics taught in Grades 3, 4, and 5

      • Plenty of content taught in Grades 2 and 6

(Check out the workshop descriptions to see how many will support your teaching needs.)

      Also helpful for:

      • Remedial middle school teachers (fractions, anyone?)

      • Any teacher working to fill learning gaps

      • Math curriculum coordinators and coaches

Still not sure? Just reach out and we’ll help you figure it out.

    • There’s a special satisfaction I get working with teachers who have lots of experience. With all the years of teaching background, the coaching and workshops can go that much farther.

If deepening your understanding of 8 major math content areas (and how children learn each one!) resonates with you, then absolutely yes. It helps you make more intentional teaching decisions to make sure your lessons reach every student - even students who need extra support.

    • The Coffee & Pi Teachers Academy does not promote or follow a particular curriculum. Instead, it builds your math muscles and gives you teaching strategies so that you can use any curriculum with more clarity and confidence. You’ll suddenly find your school’s math program so much easier to navigate.

You’ll learn how to fill in gaps, break things down, develop skills, and make the material click no matter what book or resource you’re working from (you can even work from a blank notebook!).

    • It’s completely up to you and what topics you’re teaching that month. Most months you’ll find yourself watching one workshop (1-3 hours) and one live Q&A session (about 45 minutes).

Both are recorded so you can check them out in your own time.

The community is always open, so you can check in as often or as little as you like.

    • Workshops and Q&As are delivered through Teachable, a simple, teacher-friendly platform. The teachers' community lives right alongside the workshop recordings — so everything’s in one, easy-to-access place. You can log in on a desktop or mobile.

    Any questions?

In June 2026 you could be looking back at the most successful math year you've ever had.

    • A year where you were excited to walk in every day and teach.

    • Where your students actually loved fractions.

    • Where even your most reluctant learners were raising their hands, excited to share their thinking.

    Here’s what made the difference:

    A CLEAR ROADMAP

Not just what to teach, but how to teach it so that every kid gets it the first time

    SOMEWHERE TO TURN WITH QUESTIONS

From “My class isn’t getting this,” to “How do I make this less boring?!”

A COMMUNITY OF TEACHERS WHO GET IT

Real, helpful support whenever you needed it
